Hi everyone,
As I sit
here looking out of the window, it is absolutely pouring
down in Kendal, and the water is pouring down our hill
like a river. I hope the last few weeks have not been
our Summer!
Every time
we watch the news, we are still filled with doom and
gloom, 2.4 million unemployed, MPs robbing us blind, our
brave soldiers being killed in Afghanistan, companies
going bust, 6 pubs closing every week!!! Tell you what
I think it's even more important to have something to
look forward to....
Soul in
the Sun Lanzarote November 5th, 2009 -
Soul in
the Sun in Lanzarote is now just 111 sleeps away,
which doesn't sound as bad as 4 months does it?
Bookings are going well under the
present economic circumstances, at present all the
studio apartments are sold out, as are all the 2 and
3 bedroom apartments. There is limited number of
beachfront one bedroom apartments left.
If you are hoping to join us you need to book as
soon as you can. If you haven't been to Sands Beach
before, believe me it really is the bees knees. All
the Villas have all the mod cons, and either have
their own patio or balcony complete with recliners
and outdoor furniture for al fresco dining. We have
soul nights every night in two rooms. The Cellar
Bar is dedicated to Northern Soul oldies and
stompers every night after midnight, while the
Cabaret Bar plays a complete mixture of quality Soul
Music. Every day we have our afternoon sessions at
The Mai Tai Bar, which is open air, and once a week
we have our legendary fancy dress all dayers. Don't
forget you can come on November 5th for the first
week, of the full fortnight, or on November 12th for
the second week. Prices start at little as £380.50
per person for a week, or just £501 for the
fortnight including, flights from Manchester,
transfers, apartment and soul passes, other airports
available. (based on 4 people sharing a one
bedroom apartment) You need to phone The
Little Travel Shop on 01942 522888 to book your
holiday
The present prices for the
flights will be going up in the next 4 weeks, when
any unsold seats on the "Soul Planes" are taken back
by the travel company for re sale, and although we
can still get them, they will cost us more.
Also if you have booked your holiday and not bought
your passes, you need to do it buy the end of this
month. Your requests for certain apartments are
allocated on a first come, first served basis from
when you bought your passes. Please bear this in
mind and return the attached booking form as soon as
you can.
Soul in the Sun - Tenerife April 23rd, 2010 -
You might have heard rumours about The Jungle Bar
being up for sale, and The Fort being demolished.
The actual facts are that The Jungle Bar has been up
for sale for 6 months, and to quote Willie " there
isn't a hope in hell of selling it" As for The Fort
being demolished, they are doing a load of building
work there at present due to the fact that their new
nightclub is so successful the authorities have
ordered them to strengthen the floor due to extra
numbers. The floor of the nightclub, is in fact the
ceiling of The Fort, so you can imagine the amount
of work needed.
We will be
using The Jungle at nights and The Fort for our Daytime
Soul Sessions in 2010
For this holiday you sort out your
own flights and accommodation, and buy the soul passes
from myself. The little Travel shop can find you an
apartment / hotel near the venue, and is very
competitive for flights. Phone 01942 522888
The Park Nightclub, Kendal -
Thank you
very much to all of you who supported us in our yearly
Reunion / Charity Soul Night in Kendal. Big thanks to
Andy, Brav & Jamie for the door. To DJs Biff, Pat
Wallace, Tony Patchett, Shaun Fitton & Paul Morrall for
playing some great sounds and to everyone who donated
prizes for our raffle. We raised £600 for Cancer
Research and £400 for The Ben Brown Appeal Fund. (see
below)
The final
Charity Soul Night for 2009
is on
Saturday October 3rd, 2009 at The Okeh Club, Victoria
Road, Keighley
The Silurian Way Sponsored Walk -
what a great
day we had, although we were a little disappointed with
the support from you the Soul in the Sun crowd, the ones
who did turn up certainly did us proud. It was a hard
walk, but the weather was fantastic, and the scenery
breathtaking. Photos can be seen at
www.silurianwalk.co.uk and we are hoping to collect
around £9000 on the event.
Cancer Research - Once again
this year we are doing well. So far our total for 2009
is £11,000 and we still have a few promises from our
April Soul in the Sun to come in, and some sponsor
money. Jim the treasurer just told me the other day
that since we have been raising money for them our total
to date is £64,500 On top of this I reckon there has
been at least another £5000 to other organisations.
Sponsored Children - As you
may be aware Soultime Limited (on your behalf) sponsor
two children and their families in Zambia. These
guys literally live in mud huts, and our
sponsorship changes their lives dramatically. As well as
supplying them with clean water to drink, your donations
help with other things that we take for granted, like
blankets & shoes, not to mention rice and so important
to them is vegetable oil. Jennifer (on the left) is now
able to go to school, and Kisu (on the right) has a
properly balanced diet as does his twin sister and the
rest of his family. Should you wish to sponsor a family
yourself check out
www.worldvision.org.uk

The
Ben Brown Appeal - In our
last newsletter I told you about Sue Godfrey's nephew
Ben Brown who was diagnosed with Hypothalamic Syndrome.
We have so far raised over £500 for him. There is now a
website where you can follow his progress and keep up to
date with his fund raising. You can also make a donation
to him if you so wish. The address is
